Climbing the Rope

Etta's been in gymnastics at Go For It since we moved to Vegas in March. Let me just say she loves gymnastics but her nemesis was the rope for the first two months. Mainly because neither of the coaches bothered to show her how to climb the rope. To get an idea of what it looked like, what this video from April...

Since then, one of the coaches specifically showed her how to place her feet on the rope to help her climb. She's been working on it the last few months and has gotten close by a few feet shy of the ceiling before heading back down. I decided to bribe her with a trip to an ice cream store if she were to climb to the top. She would also get to ring the bell in the gym announcing her accomplish of a "first". A week from my bribe, she climbed to the top of the rope. She commented that she had been scared but now knows she can do it. Here is the most recent time she climbed the rope...

The girls and I went to U Swirl for some frozen yogurt for the first time. Since I know the bribe works, I'll be keeping that tucked away for future reference.

That was almost as scary as watching it live. They are so little and that is such a long way up there. I was glad to see that the instructor was actually there spotting her.

Dan doesn't have any kindergarteners capable of climbing to the top of his ropes - very impressive!!

If Dan's kindergarteners practiced twice a week, they would be able to get it eventually...just like Etta. The ice cream incentive really worked!
